My Story...

Ciao a tutti,

My name is Mariya and I have been in love with the Italian language for the last 13 years (and I am only 25 years old, so that's long!). I am originally from Sofia, Bulgaria and I am currently living in the Netherlands.

It all started when I was 11 years old and I went to Rome. That was my first visit to the città eterna and I immediately fell in love not only with Rome, but also with the beautiful Italian language. As a result, I decided that "one day" I will move to Rome, live like Italians do and enjoy the Italian life. Sounds very simple, but of course it's easier said than done! Long story short, when I graduated from high school I ended up in Rome applying for universities with 2 large suitcases and pretty much no idea of how things worked over there. After 3 wonderful years of studying and enjoying la dolce vita in Rome, I moved to the Netherlands where I have been living for the last 2 years.

What do I usually do?

I love coffee, I am pretty sure I have an addiction. Cooking is definitely one of my favorite daily activities and since I mostly work from home I get plenty of time to have some fun in the kitchen. I also love to travel (I imagine that most of you do) and I try to do it as often as possible. When I have some extra time I like to walk around and just enjoy nature. I love reading (I always carry a book with me).Yoga fits into my daily life as well, I like doing my yoga routine because it keeps me in shape and gives me lots of energy. Overall, I am quite an active person. I like doing many things and have a lot of interests, but sometimes I don't have enough time to do it all!

A little bit about my education and experience...

In 2010 I graduated from the Italian High School in Sofia, where I had the possibility to learn from the best Italian teachers and professors in Bulgaria;

In 2014 I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in European Languages, Linguistics and Cultural Mediation from Università degli Studi Roma Tre. When I arrived in Rome my level of Italian was already quite high, but after 3 years of living with Italians and studying in Italian (my whole degree was taught in Italian) I can honestly say that I am as good as a native speaker. Quite often people don't even realize that I am not an Italian...

In 2016 I graduated from Leiden University, I obtained a Master's Degree in Italian Language and Linguistics where I specialized in teaching Italian;

From the beginning of 2016 I have been working as a freelance Italian teacher. At the moment I am teaching private online Italian language lessons and I have to admit that I just love it...

Besides Italian I also speak Bulgarian (native), English, a little bit of Russian and I am currently learning Dutch.

The Italian language has been my biggest passion for a while and now it's time for me to spread the love...
