Where To Eat The Best Fiorentina Steak In Tuscany

So, you are planning a trip in Tuscany and I am 100% sure that this question already came to your mind...

Where should I eat the famous bistecca alla fiorentina

You don't know where to go, because everything you find in TripAdvisor feels quite touristy and all you want is to find an authentic place, where you can enjoy a real fiorentina steak!

How Much Does a Bistecca alla Fiorentina Cost?

First of all, you should be aware of the price of the delicious Italian steak. Normally it's somewhere between 45€ - 60€ per kg. In some places they ask you to order at least 1 kg but there are some places where you can order 700-800 gr.  Some places will include the side dish in the price and some not. If you are planning to eat a steak in Firenze, remember that there are a lot of touristy places where the price might be even higher and the quality not so good.

The Best Fiorentina Steak in Tuscany

Ok, when I say the best Fiorentina Steak in Tuscany, I really mean it! Trust me! I've been in Tuscany several times, I've had several steaks and the one I had in L'Osteria Rifugio Del Chianti was something I can't even describe...Amazing!

Where to find the Osteria? The address is  "Badia a Montemuro, Radda in Chianti, Italy" and it's just a 15 minutes ride from Radda in Chianti.

How did I end up there having the best bistecca fiorentina of my life?

We were staying at a nice airbnb close to Greve in Chianti and our owner left the restaurant's business card and he told us that it's a small osteria where we can enjoy you some nice and typical Tuscan meals. We decided to give it a try and the next day, after walking around in Radda in Chianti, it was time for lunch and we stopped by. We were very hungry and we wanted a Fiorentina steak. Unfortunately, the steaks were finished and we had to order something else.

Before ordering our lunch, I asked the owner Leonardo - "Ok, can we come back tomorrow evening for a bistecca alla fiorentinaI?" and his reply sort of shocked me...He said "Listen, first have your lunch now, see if you will enjoy it and if you think our kitchen is good, then you can come back tomorrow evening and I will get you a nice Fiorentina!". I've never met a restaurant owner before, that was so honest with his guests and so proud of his food! So back to the lunch, we had an amazing pasta al ragù di cinghiale and a tagliata al gorgonzola which was excellent, you can see it yourself:

After this tasty lunch we decided to come back the next day for dinner and booked a table. When we came back, we were welcomed like family. Leonardo was so happy to see us, he gave us a warm welcome, he offered us a glass of prosecco and a some bruschette. Then he told us that in the morning he went to the butcher to pick a nice steak for us and that he wanted to show it to us:

We asked him what would he suggest for us as a starter and he looked at us and said "Please, don't order a started, just enjoy your steak...It will be more than enough!". Well, I don't know about you, but I've never been advised to order less food in a restaurant!

So we order a glass of red wine (Leonardo advised us to order the house wine) and we waited for our steak to be prepared. After 20 - 25 minutes, this arrived:

The steak was almost 1.300 kg and together with it, Leonardo cooked for us: fried spinach, white beans, salad, fried funghi porcini with some grated parmigiano, some gorgonzola and riduzione di aceto balsamico (a very taste salsa from balsamic vinegar).

Everything was perfectly cooked and the taste was just incredible. The steak was medium-rare, Leonardo said he doesn't let his clients choose how to cook the steak, but he does it his way.

We enjoyed every single bite of our dinner and this was the best Fiorentina steak we ever tasted! Trust me, if you have the chance to go there - you won't regret it!

And how much did it cost us? We had: 2 glasses of wine, 2 bottles of water, the steak + all the side dishes and a dessert and we paid 75€ - how amazing is this?! I can tell you that in all the other places where we had a steak + all the rest we paid more than 120€.

Leonardo is a great person, he is really honest and the only important thing for him is that you enjoy his food! He treats everybody like family and if you decide to stop by L'Osteria Rifugio Del Chianti he will welcome you with a warm smile and he will serve one the best meals you will ever have!
