How To Learn Italian Fast? 4 Great Tips For Italian Learners

How long would it take me to learn Italian?

This is something I hear all the time, basically this is the first question that I get as an Italian teacher...

The answer is: it all depends on you! First of all, you can't rush it, you have be aware of the fact that you won't learn Italian in 2 months. You have to be patient...Italian is a beautiful language but it's not a very easy one to learn. It will take time and efforts before you are able to finally say: I speak Italian well!

Now, I don't want to discourage you, not at all! I just want to prepare you and to encourage you to have some patience, at the end Rome wasn't built in a day, right?!

However, there is a way to speed up things and learn Italian faster and here is how you can do it:

Top Tips For Learning Italian Fast

1. Define your goals

Before doing anything ask yourself: Why do I want to learn Italian?, the answer will help you understand your objectives better. Once you know your goals, it will be very easy for you to create a study plan for yourself and it will also help you stay motivated when things get hard.

When you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve, it's always good to set up monthly goals. Why? Because that way it will be easier for you to stay focused, plus you will feel great at the end of the month when you realize you've done quite a lot and you've reached your goals.

Here is an example of a monthly objective: "Learn all the irregular verbs in the present tenseor "Learn the 500 most common Italian words".

2. Learn Italian with music

I am pretty sure you've already listen to some Italian music, we've all heard about Eros Ramazzotti, Tiziano Ferro, Andrea Bocelli and etc. But why should you use Italian songs to learn faster Italian?

I will tell you why: because you will always find time to listen to music, you can do it on the way to the office, you can do it while cooking or while cleaning, you can do it in your lunch break. Italian songs have very "rich" texts, they use a lot of vocabulary, so you will always learn new words & expressions. Of course, listening only is not enough - you have to get yourself a notebook and write down the new vocabulary & grammar.

How to listen to songs and learn Italian? First listen to the song one time without reading anything, after that listen to it one more time but reading the Italian lyrics. Then you can try translating the text and when you encounter something new, just write it down! A pretty easy and fun activity to do, right?

3. Practice Italian daily

Studying Italian every day will help you significantly improve your level... I know what you are thinking: How can I do it? I am so busy...,yes I believe you but you don't have study for hours... Trust me when I tell you, even 30 minutes per day will make a difference. I am sure you can find half an hour per day for studying! You can do it before you go to work, or while travelling to work or in the evening while waiting for your dinner to be ready.

But what can you do for 30 minutes? You can create flashcards, you can read Italian blogs & articles in Italian, you can review new vocabulary, you can watch Italian videos on Youtube and etc.

4. Speak Italian as much as possible!

Yes, I know it's scary at the beginning but it's very important to speak Italian as much as possible. How can you do it if you don't live in Italy? There are plenty of options, don't worry!

The most efficient way is to practice with tutor: you can ask a friend or family member to help you out (obviously if you know someone, who is good in Italian) or you could also sign up for online Italian lessons. A guided speaking lesson can be indeed very helpful and nowadays there are plenty of options on the internet!

You can also sign up for language exchange: basically you can help someone who wants to learn a language, that you speak quite well and in exchange the order person will help you with your Italian. It's free of charge, it's very inform and it can be a great way of meeting new people.

Don't forget about the meetups! There is a probably, somewhere close to you,  an Italian meetup, where you can go from time to time to practice your speaking skills. Just do a little research on the Internet and get started!

Buon studio!
